Zero Calorie drink has more Anti-oxidant Power than Broccoli

I am always looking for ways to increase my anti-oxidant intake. After all this is one sure way to slow down the aging process. Anti-oxidants protect against oxidative stress and inflammation, the two biggest aging obstacles a person faces.

The more stress in your life, the more oxidative stress you have in your body which in turn causes more inflammation. In the last 5 years we have heard more and more about inflammation. Inflammation is now considered to be the beginning causes of cancer and heart disease.

The more junk you eat, especially sugar, the more oxidative stress you have. Smoking and alcohol cause oxidative stress. Lack of sleep, you guessed it, more oxidative stress. No one can avoid oxidative stress, the causes are everywhere. Pollution, electromagnetic waves and even radiation are things that we are bombarded with on a daily basis.

It is widely known that when we decrease the inflammation in our body our skin begins to look healthier and younger. This information really got my attention. How amazing to be able to drink just one cup of green tea and get more anti-oxidant power than broccoli or spinach, and the ability to block viruses from doing damage, and increase fat oxidation by 33 percent. No wonder I came across so many attention grabbing headlines.

There are a lot of different kinds of Green Tea but the most potent form of Green Tea is called Matcha and comes in powder form. You can get it online at www.mountainroseherbs.com or at www.mercola.com You can also get it at your local tea or health food store.

Some people do not care for the taste of green tea, but I have discovered a way to really improve the taste.

  • Cathey’s Green Tea
  • 1 cup of prepared Green Tea
  • 1” of peeled ginger crushed or you can put it in a garlic press and let juice drip into your green tea
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of raw honey

This is a great way to make sure you get ginger into your diet. (I will definitely be writing about ginger’s incredible benefits soon)

You can even make a big batch and keep it in the refrigerator and drink it for a couple of days. I love to put it in a “to go” bottle and drink it cold.

Keep in mind there is caffeine in Green Tea, so if you are sensitive don’t drink it late in the day. One cup of coffee has around 135 mg of caffeine while 1 cup of green tea has around 25-40 mg.

Oh and if you have tea leaves or any residual powder left at the bottom of your cup do not throw them out. You can make your own super anti-oxidant face mask. Just mix ½ – 1 teaspoon of green tea leaves or powder and 1 tablespoon of raw honey. Spread on your face avoiding the eye area and leave on for 5 – 20 minutes then wash off. The green tea as well as the raw honey fights bacteria that triggers acne and also reduces redness and inflammation.

Green tea is also very soothing and healing for sunburned skin. You can make a pot of green tea and then pour into your lukewarm to cool bath and soak.

When it comes to slowing down the aging process, adding green tea to your daily regimen is a win win boost for your skin and your overall health.
