Minding Your I AMs

The older I get, the more I realize that one of the most important factors to happiness, success, health and even beauty is our I AM thoughts.

Stop for a moment and think about how many thoughts you have had so far today that start with “I AM”.

You may recognize some of the more common I AM’s:

  • I AM tired
  • I AM late
  • I AM broke
  • I AM fat
  • I AM sad
  • I AM mad
  • I AM old
  • I AM not smart
  • I AM unattractive

Turns out those two little words “I AM” are actually mystical and very powerful. You see your subconscious mind is impersonal and non-judgemental. If you tell it something, especially with emotion attached to that something, your subconscious immediately goes to work to bring you more of whatever you tell it. When you use the words “I AM” you are stating something as if it is already the truth. Guess what, your subconscious mind believes you and goes to work.

If you read my blog “You Really Need it and all it cost is Time” you will remember that I talked about the most important 5 minutes of the day is right before you fall asleep. Whatever you tell your subconscious mind as you fall asleep, it goes to work on the entire night to bring about more of what you tell it.

Here is what I find so interesting. In the bible (John 8:58) Jesus tells us that God, the creative Source of the universe, defined as love, is called I AM. This is the true name of God. Jesus tells us that by using the words “I AM” he is one with God. He also tells us that we can do all that God does, by using the “I AM” presence.

If you grew up going to church, you will remember being taught to never take God’s name in vain. Many people now believe that the true meaning of taking God’s name in vain is when you say “I AM” followed by something negative. To me this makes total sense. If you have the power to create, using the words “I AM” wouldn’t it be very “vain” to waste it on creating something you don’t really want?

Even if you don’t believe in God, there is a scientific explanation. Scientists know that there is only one energy in the universe. This energy is everywhere, it is in each of us, the plants, the rocks, the furniture, it is literally everywhere and it is conscious of itself. The first time I heard this, I thought, yes this is God, the Universal Mind or whatever you may call it. Even the bible says that God is Love and what is Love? Energy.

The scientists know that our thoughts effect not only ourselves, but everything around us. I was blown away when I read scientist, Greg Braden’s books “The Divine Matrix”, and “The Spontaneous Healing of Belief”. In these books he presents scientific experiments that will take away any doubt you may have about the power of your thoughts and beliefs.

A long time ago I had an “aha moment” as Oprah would say. Most of us at one time or another have wanted to lose some weight and I am no different. My aha moment came when I realized the more I focused on “I am fat” “I am wanting to lose weight, the harder it was to actually lose weight. That is when it dawned on me that the Law of Attraction, the power of “I AM” is impartial, non-judgemental, alive and working. Because I was focusing on “I am fat” I am wanting to lose weight, guess what my subconscious mind or God or The Universal Mind gave me more of… being fat and more wanting to lose weight. Was I really fat, no, but because I kept saying I am fat, I kept myself in that vicious cycle of wanting to lose the same 5 lbs over and over.

Many people experience this same scenario with different subjects including finances, careers, relationships and the list goes on and on.

I love the way Dr. Wayne Dyer states the power of “I AM” in his new children’s book “I AM: Why Two Little Words Mean So Much”. He says “Anytime you start a sentence with I AM, you are creating what you are and what you want to be”.

Being conscious of your “I AM” thoughts is a powerful way to create a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life.

Doesn’t it actually feel better to think:

  • I AM Happy
  • I AM Love
  • I AM Abundant
  • I AM Smart
  • I AM Sexy
  • I AM Rich

You may not be happy, or smart or rich in every aspect of your life. Very few people are. If you can focus on the things that you ARE happy about as you say “I AM Happy”, then you are speaking the truth which adds more emotion which makes your “I AM Happy” more powerful.

I believe that if we will treat “I AM” as our God given power to create what we want, the sky is the limit.

If you would like to read more on this subject, Dr. Wayne Dyer’s book “Wishes Fulfilled” is a great place to start.
